Drogon Boat Racing

We are a young club, still growing, but last year, we offered a few dozen paddling opportunities--we took boats down several Muskoka Rivers, we paddled up and down the rugged coast of Georgian Bay and we even managed to get 5 or 6 days of white-water over at Palmer Rapids. We had a blast. Whether barreling down a frothy river, or sitting around a fire after a long day's paddle looking up at a few trillion stars, being outside with kindred spirits is an awesome thing!

We also hosted a couple of trainings in both canoe and kayak skill development.  Each year we try to add in a few more activities in both flat water and moving water and also host and participate in some dragon boat and voyageur racing. The club is very membership driven in that we tend to do what the members are hot on doing!

A good way to find out more about the club is either to come to a meeting…. (click on the Meeting icon for dates and location) or sign up to be on the mailing list. Once you’re on the mailing list, you’ll get occasional notices about trips, trainings, films and other events and that will give you a better sense of who we are and what we’re about.

Or, if you just want to get out paddling, click on the Membership page and join.  It’s only $20 for the year!

Meanwhile, mark May 7th in your calendar!

SECOND ANNUAL VOYAGER CANOE RACES -- SATURDAY, MAY 7th

Come join us for an action-packed, fun day of paddling in Bracebridge Bay as part of the Festival of the Falls. Voyageur canoes are the big 7-8 person boats early Canadians used to traverse the waterways (see the photo below). Despite their size, these boats can be very fast and agile. We’re going to be putting together up to 12 teams to race these boats in the bay.

You don’t have to have huge muscles or know anything about racing… but some paddling experience is a good idea. We supply the boats, life jackets, paddles and mega horn! There will be great prizes. To be a part of a team or to find out more, contact Anna at mail@muskokapaddlers.com.

Last year we have an incredibly fun time! This is a great way to start the paddling season! Join in!
